- Wednesdays 9 am–5 pm, last entry 4 pm. The museum's calendar currently lists free Wednesdays through March 31, 2027. Dates are published by season, so check the official calendar before you go.

- Illinois residents only. Bring an Illinois ID or other proof of address. Out-of-state and foreign visitors pay full price.

- Reserve the Illinois resident ticket on the museum's site, or ask at the desk.

- How to get there
- Bus 146 from State St or Michigan Ave to Museum Campus. From Roosevelt station (Red, Green, Orange) it is a 15-minute walk east.
Worth it? Yes.A real saving if you live in Illinois, and of no use if you do not. Free covers general admission only, ticketed exhibitions and 3D films are extra.
