Free things to do in Los Angeles

Official sources checked Oct 4, 202619 always free · 5 free on certain days · 1 tip-based tours

Los Angeles gives away more first-rate museums than almost any American city. The Getty Center, the Getty Villa, The Broad, MOCA, the Hammer, the California Science Center and Griffith Observatory charge nothing at the door on any day they are open. The catch is the car. Parking at the Getty is $25, the Broad's garage is $19, and the Observatory lot is metered until 10 pm. Arrive by Metro or the 50-cent DASH bus and the day really is free. Outside the museums, the beaches from Santa Monica to Venice and the trails of Griffith Park cost nothing, and the hilltop views are clearest on the morning after rain.
