Free things to do in Orlando

Official sources checked Oct 4, 202615 always free · 6 free on certain days

Orlando charges for almost everything, starting with $35 to park at a theme park before you have bought a ticket. The free side of the city sits outside the gates. Disney Springs has no admission and free garages. Universal CityWalk is free to enter, and free to park at only after 6 pm on non-event nights. Downtown has Lake Eola and its swans. Winter Park, 15 minutes north, has a brick main street, a free college art museum and two public gardens. Farther out, two wetlands put alligators and spoonbills in front of you at no charge. You need a car for most of it, so parking rules matter as much as ticket prices.

  • SunRail runs on weekdays only, so on weekends you need a car to reach Winter Park or Kissimmee.
  • From June to September do outdoor stops before 11 am or after 5 pm, and expect a thunderstorm around 3 pm.

Questions people ask

Can you go to Disney Springs without a park ticket?

Yes. Disney Springs has no admission charge and self-parking in its garages and surface lots is free. Garages open at 9 am.

Is parking free at Universal CityWalk?

Only after 6 pm, and not on Halloween Horror Nights event nights, when the standard fee applies until 2 am. Before 6 pm regular self-parking is $35.

Can I park at a Disney hotel for free to look around or watch fireworks?

Disney's policy gives day guests free standard self-parking only while they use select dining, shopping, entertainment or recreation at that hotel. Security at the gate can ask for a reservation and ID, so do not plan on parking just to watch fireworks from a resort beach.

Which Orlando museums are free?

Where can I see alligators for free near Orlando?

Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, open Fridays to Sundays and federal holidays with the gate open from 7 am to 3 pm, and Orlando Wetlands, open Tuesday to Sunday from sunrise to sunset. Neither charges a fee.
