Free things to do in Las Vegas

Official sources checked Oct 4, 202621 always free · 1 free on certain days

Free in Las Vegas mostly means free shows, not free museums. The casinos put on fountains, flower displays, animatronic statues and circus acts to pull you through the door, and nobody asks if you gamble. Downtown, the Fremont Street canopy runs a light show every hour from 6 pm, and the restored neon signs along Las Vegas Boulevard cost nothing to look at. The catch is everything around the free thing. Most Strip resorts charge for self-parking, the Deuce bus has a fare, and the walk between two casinos that look close on a map can take 25 minutes. Several old favorites are gone: the Mirage volcano and the Venetian's Streetmosphere singers have both closed.

Before you go

  • Walk in from the sidewalk or take the Deuce bus to Strip shows, because Bellagio and most MGM and Caesars resorts charge for self-parking.
  • Check the day before you go: the Atlantis show is dark Tuesday and Wednesday, the Circus Circus acts run Friday to Monday only, and the Silverton mermaids swim Thursday to Sunday.
  • From May to September do the outdoor stops before 10 am or after sunset and save the Bellagio Conservatory and the Forum Shops for the afternoon heat.

Questions people ask

Are the Bellagio fountains free?

Yes. You watch from the public sidewalk on Las Vegas Boulevard and need no ticket. Shows start at 3 pm on weekdays and noon on weekends and holidays, and run until midnight, though wind cancels them without notice.

Is the Fremont Street Experience free?

Yes. The pedestrian mall is open around the clock and the Viva Vision light show plays on the canopy at the top of each hour from 6 pm to 2 am. The zip line, the drinks and the casino garages are what cost money.

Is the Mirage volcano still running?

No. The Mirage closed in July 2024 and the volcano went with it. The Venetian's free Streetmosphere performances also ended in December 2023.

Is parking free on the Las Vegas Strip?

Mostly not. Bellagio and the other MGM and Caesars resorts charge for self-parking, so a free show can cost you a parking fee if you drive. Off-Strip stops such as Silverton, Ethel M, the Pinball Hall of Fame and the Welcome sign have their own free lots.

Can you see Red Rock Canyon for free?

Only from the edge. The Red Rock Overlook on State Route 159 and the Red Spring picnic area need no fee or reservation. The 13-mile Scenic Drive charges per vehicle and requires a timed entry reservation from October 1 to May 31.
