How We Verify What Is Free

Official sources only

The day, time and conditions of free entry come from the attraction's own website. For parks and public spaces, from the city or the body that runs them. For free walking tours, from the catalogue of the partner that operates the bookings.

A place with no official source stating its free access does not go on the site. Blogs and review sites help us find places; they are never the source.

What counts as free

Always free means anyone can walk in on any day the place is open, without paying.

Free on certain days covers free days, free evenings and free entry for specific groups. When free entry is only for residents, the card says so in the first line. When it is "pay what you wish" or a suggested donation, we say that too, and whether a minimum applies.

Tip-based tours are not free in the strict sense. There is no ticket price, and a tip is expected. We list them separately for that reason.

The check date

Each city page shows the date its sources were last checked. Museums change their free hours, often at the start of a year or a season. If the date is old, treat the information with more care and confirm on the official site, which is linked on every card.

The "worth it" verdict

The verdict is our opinion. Some famous free things are crowded, short or disappointing, and we say so. A free thing still costs you time.
