Free museums in Rio de Janeiro, and when

Official sources checked Oct 5, 2026

Most of Rio's free museums are simply free, with no special day to chase. CCBB, MAM, the Paço Imperial and the federal museums (República, Histórico Nacional, Chácara do Céu) charge nobody. The weekly rule to remember is Tuesday: MAR is free for everyone. Watch the closing days, because they differ: CCBB shuts on Tuesday, MAR on Wednesday, MAM on Monday and Tuesday. Museu do Amanhã no longer lists a free day and charges R$ 40.
