The city water company runs about 250 drinking fountains on squares and in parks, fed straight from the mains. Its online map shows each one, with accessible fountains marked in green.

April to October. They are shut down for frost protection in winter

Across Berlin

Cafés, shops and offices with the blue Refill sticker in the window fill your bottle with tap water at no charge, no purchase expected. The map on the Refill site shows the Berlin stations. Berlin tap water is good.

All year, during each place's opening hours. Useful from November to March when the street fountains are off

Parks, canal banks and roadsides

Mundraub is a Berlin-run map of fruit and nut trees on public land that anyone may pick from: apples, plums, mirabelles, walnuts. The rules are simple. Check it is not private or protected land, do not damage the tree, take only what you will eat.

Cherries in June, mirabelles and plums in July and August, apples, pears and walnuts in September and October

Berlin's home-grown vegan donut bakery, with shops all over town. The monthly specials, such as pumpkin spice in October, are listed at €4.90 on its site.
