Moncloa

A former lighting tower with a glass lift up to a curved viewing gallery over the university, the palace, Gran Vía and the mountains. Open Tuesday to Sunday 9:30–20:00.

The cheapest high view in Madrid. Tickets are for a set time and a 30 minute stay, so buy for the half hour before sunset. It closes in bad weather.

Cibeles

The terrace on the tower of the old post office palace, straight above the Cibeles fountain and looking down Calle de Alcalá and Gran Vía. Tuesday to Sunday 10:30–14:00 and 16:00–19:30, entry every 30 minutes.

Buy at the desk on floor 2 to avoid the €0.50 online fee. The building itself, CentroCentro, is free to walk into and has free exhibitions.

Museum of Romanticism

Chueca

A furnished 19th century town house off Calle de Fuencarral, with a ballroom, a nursery and Goya's small St Gregory. It is free on Saturdays from 14:00 and on Sundays.

At €3 on any other day it costs less than a coffee nearby, and it is rarely busy on weekdays. The same price applies at the Cerralbo and the Archaeological Museum.
